Why Choose an RICS Estate Agent?
The RICS promotes and enforces the highest professional qualifications and standards in Estate Agency.
Estate Agents are not required to be members of the RICS; indeed, many Estate Agents would prefer not to have the added complication and expense of such an organisation. However, those of us who have endeavoured to achieve Chartered status recognise that the Estate Agency profession has an image problem that desperately needs tackling. It is through strict adherence to the RICS professional standards that we are able begin to redress this issue.
Compulsory Standards:
The need for an ethical upheaval and increased transparency of the Estate Agency profession is at the heart of the RICS Professional Statement on UK Residential Real Estate Agency by Christina Hirst FRICS.
This comprehensive document is a mandate for RICS Estate Agents. It sets out compulsory standards to ensure that we are working to the highest ethical and professional level.
Ethical Principles:
In particular, RICS members are required to adhere to the five RICS ethical principles which state that we must:
• Act with integrity
• Always provide a high standard of service
• Act in a way that promotes trust in the profession
• Treat others with respect
• Take responsibility
Professionalism:
RICS Estate Agents also have a duty to always act fairly in our dealings with consumers and to never:
• Give false or misleading information to consumers
• Hide or fail to provide material information to consumers
• Exert undue pressure on consumers
• Act without the standard of care and skill that is in accordance with honest market practice and in good faith.
