Raynsford Almshouses

This morning, our Chartered Building Surveyor visited the Raynsford Almshouses in Dallington Green, Northampton, to conduct an Insurance Reinstatement Cost Assessment (RCA).

Built in 1673 by Sir Richard Raynsford, a former Chief Justice of the King’s Bench, these Grade II listed almshouses have provided housing for those in need for centuries. Constructed from coursed stone, with mullioned lattice windows and a central gable featuring a heraldic shield, they remain an integral part of the local community under the management of Dallington Raynsford’s Almshouse Charities.

What is an RCA and Why is it Important?

An RCA provides a professional estimate of the full cost of rebuilding a property in the event of significant damage or destruction. This ensures that buildings are neither underinsured, which could leave owners unable to cover reconstruction costs, nor overinsured, leading to unnecessarily high premiums.

Accurate RCAs are essential for all property owners and managers—whether for modern or historic buildings—to ensure they have the correct level of insurance cover in place.
