Mention Weston Favell to anyone familiar with Northampton, and they will likely think of either the shopping centre near the eastern edge of the town or the village that dates back to the Domesday Book and beyond. As expected, the area is rich in history, but its most famous former inhabitant has to be the molecular biologist Francis Crick, who received part of his education at Northampton Grammar School.
In the 21st century, what was once a village not far from Northampton has become a part of the town itself. But at its heart, it still has the feel of a village, with St. Peter’s 12th-century church in the centre and the village hall just across the road. Northampton Lawn Tennis Club is just off the High Street. There are two long-established pubs, The Bold Dragoon and The Trumpet, the latter of which is next to a branch of Aldi. And the popular Abington Park, with a range of facilities including Abington Park Museum, is within walking distance.
The shopping centre, with over sixty outlets including a large Tesco and a branch of Lidl, is about a mile from the village centre. Across the road from the main shopping hall, which is spread over two floors, is Lings Forum, which incorporates a gym known as Trilogy, a swimming pool, and a cinema.
For commuters, Weston Favell well situated with easy access to town centre and the M1 motorway, and trains from Northampton Railway Station are direct to London Euston.
In terms of schooling the prestigious Northampton School for Boys is close by.
